Description

This position runs throughout the school year, with summers off or 183 days per year, and .50 FTE or 4 hours  per day.  The starting wage is $14.60-$16.20 which is based on experience.  PLUS, eligible employees will be paid a $500.00 bonus in June.

 

Benefits include: a comprehensive benefit plan, Montana State retirement plan (PERS), overtime eligible, PLUS 8 days holiday pay, 15 days paid vacation, 12 days sick leave and 2 personal days to start.  Employees participating in our insurance plan and their eligible dependents are also able to take advantage of FREE medical services at our CareHere clinic!

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating assistive equipment.
  • Ability to keep students engaged while staying safe and settled!

A typical day at work might find you:

  • Interacting with students, parents, and staff in a positive manner.
  • Monitoring behavior, situations, and seating appropriately while students are on the bus.
  • Adhering to District safety and discipline requirements.
  • Using assistive devices to load and unload students from the bus.
  • Keeping the bus clean and presentable at all times.
  • Taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency. 
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature as assigned by supervisor.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities you will either bring to the job or learn while you work:

  • Ability to evacuate bus passengers in the event of an emergency.
  • Ability to meet, communicate, and monitor for a high standard of safety.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain first aide certification upon employment.
  • Ability to operate assistive devices.
  • Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Skill, dedication, and aptitude for working with students.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.

It's not manual labor, but it would be best if you are able to:

  • Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to get up and down out of your seat to physically assist the students on the bus.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs and physically assist kids on and off of the bus as needed.
  • Ability to quickly assist in evacuation of the bus in case of emergency.
  • Ability to assist in initial medical response.
  • Ability to quickly physical control students who are not following protocols and whose physical behavior is putting the child or other children at risk.
  • Ability to quickly respond to children in need.
  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry.  Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
