Job Responsibilities:

  • Teaches Driver’s Education curriculum as outlined by District No. 5 and the state of Montana.
  • Meets the diverse needs of students in the classroom by providing an appropriate learning environment.
  • Transfers knowledge and develops skills of students as safe and competent drivers. 
  • Provides quality instruction by using effective lesson plan development and strategies.
  • Establishes effective classroom management, safety procedures, and behavior expectations.
  • Works creatively, cooperatively, and establishes positive relationships with colleagues, guardians of students, students, and others.
  • Participates in professional development activities.
  • Attends departmental meetings as required.
  • Supports Special Education students by implementing IEP and 504 plans.
  • Performs duties as directed by the Driver’s Education coordinator and district administration.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to recognize and explain the general nature of the drivers’ task within the highway transportation system and the consequences of system failures.
  • Ability to effectively instruct students in the concepts and generalizations which enable students to make objective decisions.
  • Ability to use current methodologies for providing classroom instruction in driver education including but not limited to organization, classroom management and technologies, in-car instruction in driver education including route development, giving directions, positive evaluation feedback and evaluating driver performance.
  • Ability to identify and support rules and regulations governing Montana’s GDL program.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the state-specific rules of the road.
  • Ability to demonstrate vehicle operation and control from the right passenger position.
  • Ability to use information gathered from assessments and assignments to adjust future instruction so that students are prepared for the state administered written examination.
  • Ability to adjust instruction to meet the unique needs or provide remediation opportunities for students to master the objectives of the course.
  • Ability to maintain effective professional relationships with staff, students, and parents.
  • Skill in standard based instruction and assessment.
  • Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
  • Skill in the use of technology to enhance instruction and communication.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Skill, dedication, and aptitude for working with students.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as a contributing member of effective teaching teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education; AND,
  • State of Montana Educator license with appropriate certification/endorsement(s) in Traffic Education upon start date. 
  • Valid Montana driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • None.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds.
